Join the Philly Spirit Synchronized Skating Team

We welcome all interested skaters to join us at our regular weekly practice. Don’t worry if you don’t have synchro experience. Current team members have experience ranging from Gold level ice dancers to nontest skaters. Although more extensive skating experience usually translates to a smoother transition to synchro skating, if you have most of the basic skills (see team requirements), we will teach you all you need to know about synchro skating.

To find out more and/or arrange to come to a practice, please contact:

Member expectations:
  • Regular attendance at all practices
  • Maintain and improve skating skills
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn new and exciting things
  • Learn to be a team player
  • Strive to be and do more than you ever thought you could!
Skill Requirements:
  • Forward and back crossovers at speed
  • 3-turns and Mohawks, both feet, both directions, at speed
  • Lunges, spirals, simple jumps (bunny hop, waltz jump)
  • Ability to skate in rhythm to music
  • Ability to skate in formation, while connected by arms in various holds with other skaters
  • Don’t worry if you aren’t sure if you have all of these skills right away. Give it a try. We will teach you those skills that you lack. If you are a basically competent skater, you will pick it up easily.
Membership Options:
  • Competitive member – participate in all practices, competitions and exhibitions
  • Alternates – fill in for competitive members at competitions and exhibitions if a competitive member cannot attend
  • Practice subs – attend practices on a regular basis, learn the program and fill in for missing team members at practices.
    • This is an excellent option for skaters whose skills need some more improvement before they are quite ready to join us as competitive members, or for those who cannot make the full commitment to be a competitive member but enjoy synchro skating.
  • Non skating members – help out with organizational and administrative tasks, music, costuming, make-up etc.
    • This is a great choice for synchro lovers who are not themselves skaters but enjoy skating, being involved in skating, and part of a team.
Team Selection process:
  • New skaters interested in being competitive members who did not attend the open house, should arrange to come to a regular team practice.
  • After observing each new skater the coaches will determine whether each skater’s skills is up to the level required to be a competitive member.
  • Skaters interested only in being alternates or subs should also arrange to come to a team practice.
